Professor Jim Macnamara
Jim Macnamara joined UTS as Professor of Public Communication in 2007 after a distinguished 30-year career working in professional communication practice spanning journalism, public relations, advertising and media research. He was CEO of a leading marketing and corporate communication consultancy, MACRO Communication, for 13 years and then founded and headed the Asia Pacific office of the global media research firm, CARMA International, for a decade before selling the company to Media Monitors (now iSentia) in 2006. He is a leading researcher in relation to measurement and evaluation of public communication campaigns, social media use and impact, and the effectiveness and ethics of public relations and emerging practices such as ‘native advertising’, and he is widely published including six academic books, 10 professional practice books, and numerous academic journal articles, book chapters, research reports, and professional media articles.
Jim served as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UTS from 2011-2014 and currently is Associate Dean (Engagement and International) of the Faculty.
Kieran Moore
Kieran has almost 30 years’ experience in PR covering public relations strategy development and implementation, reputation and crisis management and corporate positioning for business to business and consumer focused companies both in the UK and Australia. As Ogilvy PR Australia CEO, she is responsible for the specialist businesses that fall within the Group.
Prior to becoming CEO, Kieran was the managing director of Howorth for eight years. Before that Kieran served as board director and shareholder of London-based Firefly Communications for eight years which had offices in England, Scotland, France and Germany.
Kieran has directed programmes in five major areas: consultancy (Deloitte Consulting, KPMG and Andersen Consulting); business to business (BlueScope Steel, St George Bank, Nestle and Tourism Australia); technology (Microsoft Corporation, Apple Computer, Toshiba; telecoms (Telstra, Motorola, Alcatel, Hutchison 3G and Cable & Wireless; and media (CNN, Fox Kids, BBC). Kieran is an acknowledged expert in corporate thought leadership and issues and crisis management.
As well as the operations for Ogilvy PR Australia, Kieran is actively involved in client campaigns and advises at the most senior level. Her teams have won more than 20 international awards for client campaigns and has been named one of The Australian’s top 10 Women to Watch for two consecutive years. She is an active campaigner for gender equality in the workplace.
Kim Mckay
With over 15 years experience in the media and marketing, Kim McKay is the founder of Sydney-based Communications collective, Klick Communications.
In 2008 Kim launched Klick in the knowledge that digital was changing the way brands communicate and has been consulting on Digital PR and Social Media strategies for a broad range of businesses, helping them develop platforms for future growth and brand evolvement.
Kim’s ethos is to Harness the Unexpected. The team at Klick are constantly innovating, and Klick’s ever-growing roster of partners shows that more people are looking for what Klick has to offer: a deeper insight into what makes people stand up and pay attention, and a dedicated to making things that are awesome.
Prior to founding Klick, Kim was Director of Marketing at Toga Hospitality managing 4 brands and 45 hotels throughout Australia and Europe and oversaw the creation and launch of the Vibe Hotel brand in Australia and the launch of Medina Apartment Hotels into the Berlin and Copenhagen markets. Kim also holds extensive communications and strategic planning experience through her previous role at Sony Music.
When not helping brands share their businesses with the world, Kim indulges in her healthy obsession with Australian real estate. Having previously worked with property development clients, Kim continues to keep a keen eye on market growth and fluctuations and is always on the lookout for further investment opportunities.
Caspian Smith
Caspian leads a team responsible for strengthening IBM’s brand and culture in Australia and New Zealand, the Association of South East Asian Nations, India and South Asia, and South Korea. His role encompasses strategic branding, employee engagement and external communications, social engagement and corporate advertising for the region.
In a career with IBM spanning more than 15 years, Caspian has held a variety of leadership roles in corporate communications and brand management. In his most recent role, Caspian led corporate brand management for IBM’s global growth markets, encompassing more than 60 countries. In this role he jointly led a global outreach campaign to engage IBM’s 400,000 employees in a 3-day social “Jam”, collaboratively defining a set of practices to bring the company’s values to life.
In his previous role leading communications for IBM Australia & New Zealand, Caspian contributed to a turnaround that culminated in the company tripling market growth in the region, and led the introduction of IBM’s “Smarter Planet” vision and campaign to all audiences in Australia & New Zealand.
Caspian has a combined bachelor degree in Arts and Law from the University of New South Wales, and more than 20 years’ experience in communications and branding. He is married with two young children, and lives by the beach in Sydney.
